How to choose a home car charging stations?

February 23, 2022

Classification by installation, mainly divided into two categories: wall-mounted and portable.

Wall-mounted type is required to install fixed in the parking space, in terms of power size, the mainstream is 7KW, 11KW, 22KW.

1. 7KW represents 1 hour to charge 7 degrees, equivalent to about 40 km

2. 11KW represents 11 degrees of charge in one hour, which is equivalent to 60 kilometers.

3. 22KW means 22 kW in one hour, which is about 120 km.

Portable, as the name implies, can be moved, no fixed installation, no wiring, directly with the household socket, but the current is relatively small, 10A, 16A most commonly used. The corresponding power is 2.2kw and 3.5kw.

Let's discuss how to choose the right charging post.

First, consider the degree of model adaptation

The maximum charging power that different models can accept is not determined by the charging post, but by the on-board charger in the car. In short, if your car can only accept a maximum of 7KW, even if you use a 20KW power charging post, it can only be 7KW speed.

Here the car is roughly divided into 3 types.

1. Pure electric or hybrid models with small battery capacity, represented by the Hongguang mini, with a car charger power of 3.5kw, and a general 16A, 3.5KW pile can meet the demand.

2.  Pure electric or hybrid models with larger battery capacity (e.g. Volkswagen Lang Yi, Ideal ONE), with on-board charger power of 7kw, can be matched with 32A, 7KW charging piles.

3. High range of pure electric models, for example, Tesla all series, Polaris all series vehicle charger power 11kw, you can match the 380V 11KW charging pile

Secondly, we should consider the home charging environment

In addition to consider the car and pile adaptation, but also to understand the power situation of their own community, 7KW charging pile is 220V, apply for 220V meter can, while 11KW or higher power charging pile is 380V, need to apply for 380V meter.

At present, most residential communities can apply for 220V meters, and villas or self-built houses can apply for the installation of 380V meters. Can you install the meter and what type of meter you want to install, you need to apply to the property and power bureau first.
